A little history first. The Dawson family LOVES animals, all the sisters are multiple pet owners and their parents have had dogs for as far back any of them can remember. (This has also included Emus, chickens, ducks and even a cat).

Dave Dawson is the father of the 4 sisters in the cast of characters and he has never shied away from teaching them how to deal with adversity, even if it's gross.

So, on to a dog story (There are several)

At one point in time in the past, they owned a dog named Smudge (Breed unknown to me) who didn't get along with the other pets in the house. Well, Smudge lost one disagreement and ended up minus most of an ear. In my experience, this would normally lead to a trip to the nearest veterinarian to patch things up, but Dave had a better solution. With the help of Patricia, an upholstery needle, and some thread, Trish was suddenly introduced to the world of amateur surgery. With rock steady hands and nerves of steel they immobilized the poor pup and re-attached the missing ear flap. It worked.
