Sometimes you have to be cruel to be kind. (We really love our dogs, honest)

Continuing on the dog theme, here's another story of Trish and her father trying their best to take care of their animals.

(Written from Trish's perspective)

My Dad had another dog named Lady. When I was 16 my dad thought that Lady had eaten a rat that died from poisoning. Of course, this would be a big deal since eating a poisoned rat could make Lady seriously ill, or even kill her so steps had to be taken. The solution: (Spoiler alert, this did not include a trip to the vet) Pour a bottle of hydrogen peroxide down Lady's throat to induce vomiting. Once the dose of peroxide had been delivered, someone had to remain present to verify that it had the desired effects. And so 16 year old me was left to monitor Lady for the next several hours while she vomited like crazy, over, and over, and over, all the while imagining that she would end up choking on the critter, forcing me to grab the dead, puke covered rat to keep our dog alive. This whole event ended on a relatively happy note, Lady never did puke up the rat so she probably didn't eat it. On the flip side, I saw a whole lot of vomit.

Trish around that time.
